OOTD > FIT FOR A HIGH TEA

Happy Monday!

This past weekend I had a high tea date with some beautiful friends at Sassy Cookie in Victoria Park. I'd never been there before so it was a complete surprise but oh my gosh, it was so yummy! I just love the whole high tea experience. Getting a little dressed up, trying a few fancy teas and just pretending you're living the high life for a couple of hours! Oh I am a dreamer. But seriously, I left full and content. I also left with a sudden urge to buy a tea set. So I popped into the shops on the way home and came home with the above. I managed to reign myself in and made a sensible choice. Not quite a full set but a pretty start to my collection!

Weather wise it was a rather weird day yesterday so I opted for this long sleeve floral dress I picked up from Forever 21 a few months ago. It's one of those dresses that will you do you year-round, paired with tights and boots in the winter or wedges in the summer. I decided to tone down the boldness of the print with some simple black and gold accessories and my trusty Tory Burch Reva flats. Comfy yet sweet.

Dress | Forever 21
Handbag | Oroton
Rings | Wedding Band/Engagement Ring

Hope you had a fun weekend! Speak soon.

Most Loved Lipsticks

I don't think I've left the house in the last five years or so without putting on some sort of lip colour. It's so true when they say putting on lipstick is an instant pick-me-up. For me, it completely changes my mood. Without it, I don't feel ready to tackle the day. I don't feel 'ready'. It's funny, I used to avoid lipstick at all costs when I was younger, in fear of drawing attention to myself. But now, I can't live without it. Bright lips and simple eye makeup is pretty much my everyday go-to look. It's easy and it's fun.

Over the years I've become a bit of a lipstick-oholic, trying every new Maybelline shade there is. They're probably one of my go-to brands for a vibrant, long-lasting and non-drying lipstick. Plus they're great value. But don't get me wrong, my YSL lipstick pictured above has to be my all-time love. It's expensive, but trust me it's SO worth it. My collection has certainly grown but the above lipsticks are the shades I reach for the most and keep repurchasing. They're my tried and tested, all-time faves!

I hope you found this post useful and I've inspired you to try some new shades. I'd love to know what your favourites are! Share in the comments below.

Best Dressed: 2015 Golden Globes

Kate Hudson in Versace. Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein Collection and Tiffany & Co. Jennifer  Lopez in Zuhair Murad.
Heidi Klum in Versace. Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad. Julianne Moore in custom Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci.

Wasn't there glamour at this year's Golden Globes. I'll be honest, every year I'm more concerned about the looks on the red carpet and who's wearing who than watching who's won the next Golden Globe. I couldn't even tell you who won. How terrible is that? But please tell me I'm not alone, who's with me?!

But what I can tell you is that there certainly were some absolute show-stopping gowns to be seen, my fave being Ms Reese in a simple but oh so classic Calvin Klein Collection gown and the absolutely gorgeous Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad. Seriously, girl crush or what. John Legend is one lucky guy! Both dresses were just breathtakingly beautiful.

Let me know in the comments below what you thought of this year's Golden Globes fashion. Do we have similar standouts?

Fake Bake Flawless Darker {REVIEW}

There’s no denying how amazing a little fake tan can make you feel. I’ll be honest, I started experimenting with fake tans years, and years ago (the ripe young age of 13) and I’ve been hooked ever since. For someone who is naturally pale and burns within five minutes in our great Aussie sun (thanks to my Scottish heritage), I’m always on the hunt for the next best product that’s going to give me a golden, natural, sweet smelling tan. I’ve pretty much tried them all: St. Tropez (love), Le Te (an old fave), L'Oréal (dislike – hello oompa loompa), Palmers lotion (an old love for a gradual tan but I can’t stand the after smell now), Model Co (tried all of them and love the after colour but the formula doesn't last long on me) – the list can go on and on.

I’ve wanted to try the Fake Bake range for ages. It’s been in the U.K. for years with every celebrity over there non-stop raving about it. Even my favourite YouTubers were onto it years ago but it’s never been available here in Australia until recently when Priceline got onto it. Whenever I can I love to get professionally tanned at my favourite salon (Fake Bake Hair and Beauty Boutique), it’s easy, there’s no mess and you’re in and out. But it is such a luxury so if I can do it myself and get five or so applications for the price of one then I’m all over it!

Before & After
I applied the product straight after my shower and before bed as I find it’s easier to let it develop overnight. But either way, the product dries really quickly and does not rub off onto your clothes. The glove included with the tan has this amazing soft quality which I love. It blends the product much better than any other cheapie gloves I’ve used in the past. It does soak up the product quite a bit though due to the sponge like material so I’ve started dampening the glove slightly before using so it doesn’t absorb as much. I then apply the product straight to my body and buff in circular motions. The instant colour is a huge help in ensuring you get an even application. Fake Bake recommends applying the tan at least two-three times to get your desired colour however I find the colour takes pretty well to my skin so once is enough for me. I’ve found that having well moisturised skin prior to applying does wonders for this. It’s definitely my new favourite.

Summary:

Pros

  • Value for money, for $39 I can get at least five applications and it includes a mitt
  • Dries and blends easily
  • Zero colour transfer onto clothes
  • Dark instant colour pay-off
  • Pleasant tropical scent that smells like coconut oil
  • Contains no parabens and safe for all skin types

Cons

  • Minor, but I find the spray bottle a little awkward. I’ve always been a fan of the mousse varieties so this would be my preference for next time.

Have you tried the Fake Bake tan range? Let me know your thoughts. I’m desperate to try the other varieties!

My Top 10 Wedding Tips

Planning a wedding should be the most exciting year/s of your life, not a stressful one. It’s a cliché, but our wedding day really was the best day of our lives. I’m no expert on wedding planning but I’ve been there and I’ve experienced all the emotions! Of course everyone will have their own opinions and thoughts, but here’s my learning’s and what ultimately worked for me. So if you’re at that stage of planning a wedding or hoping to in the near future, I hope I can offer some words of advice so you can have your own fairy tale day too.

1.     Take your time

From the moment you’re engaged it’s natural that you’ll be asked a million and one questions. It’s completely expected; people are excited for you and want to know your plans. But don’t think this means that you have to rush straight into it. Even though you may feel completely overwhelmed with how much there seems to do – just breathe and prioritise. You’ve just become engaged! Enjoy this moment.

For us, setting the date and location were most important as we had overseas relatives making the trip and we knew we wanted to have it within the year. So we got straight onto it. And of course, we worked out the budget. But work out what’s important for you, and then the rest; enjoy taking the time to gather your thoughts and doing one thing at a time. There’s no need to put yourself under unnecessary stress! Everything eventually falls into place.

2.     Research & Plan

No doubt you’ll be straight onto it (let’s be honest, you probably started taking mental wedding inspo notes years ago) but if you haven’t, get Googling! For all the cosmetic stuff, Pinterest, Cosmo Bride and Bridal Shows were my main sources of inspiration. Luckily I knew what kind of look I wanted before I started researching so this made it a little easier. But if you don’t – no worries, just get out there and see what you’re drawn to.

DJ’s, Photographers and Celebrants are a little harder so this is where word of mouth and recommendations comes in. Another great source of information for me was a local wedding group on Facebook – It’s actually managed by our Celebrant, Dru Soltys! This was such a great outlet to ask questions and communicate with other brides.

Lastly, talk to those around you. One of my colleagues I used to work with was married a few years ago and I always remember her photos and makeup looking amazing – so I reached out to her and she put me in contact with her suppliers. We ended up going with both of them!

3.     Make a Wedding folder

Following on from the planning, start saving your inspirations and take them with you to your appointments. For every appointment I had, Makeup Artist, Hair Stylist, DJ, Photographer and our Event Coordinator, I brought along my ideas with me. Not only does this make it a hell of a lot easier for your suppliers to get an understanding of what you’re after and your expectations, but it makes a great reference point for you when you’re feeling stressed and need to visualise the bigger picture.

4.     Listen to your own voice

Planning a wedding is such an exciting time, not only for you and your fiancé but the whole immediate family and bridal party involved – and so it should be! I absolutely loved having everyone closest to me involved in the process. It made it that much more special and memorable. But it can cloud your own thoughts at times. After trying on 25+ dresses, I finally found the ONE when I went by myself. That was one of the best decisions I made. I had time to hear my own thoughts and made my own decision that this dress was completely me. Always trust your own thoughts and creativity.

5.     But don’t forget your fiancé's

This is his or hers wedding too – so don’t forget to include them in the decision-making! Some people are more than happy to be left out of the process but don’t automatically assume that this will be the case for all.  Communicate and let your partner be involved if they want to. You’re a team.

6.     You can’t please everyone

It’s your day – not theirs! Wanting to please everyone was one of the hardest struggles I experienced throughout the planning process. Being a natural people pleaser and not really knowing from the get-go what we wanted for the day, I had everyone’s opinions and expectations put on me from the moment we were engaged. My stress levels literally went from 0 – 100 within a day. After my second meltdown of the year, it all came to a head when my very wise (and sane) Hubby said to me - WHO CARES. Who cares what they think? This is our day – not theirs. This simple advice became my mantra and I started to put my foot down. You don’t need to be a Bridezilla about it all, just know that you’re in control!

7.     Choose your invite list carefully

For many people making an invite list can be one of the trickiest things to do when you’re planning a wedding and for many reasons. Whether you’ve got a tight budget, a certain quota to keep within or simply just because you want only your closest there – you’ve got to do what’s best for you and your partner. For us it was all about the latter. For every person put on our list, we would ask ourselves “Have we seen these people in the last 6 months? (Obviously excluding overseas friends and family). This made our decision so easy and looking back, there isn’t one regret with whom we invited. It was the best. party. ever because those who were nearest, dearest and wanted to be there, were there.

8.     Stay within your means

As a said above, one of the first things you should do is set a budget. When you start working with suppliers it can be very easy to keep pushing the budget higher and higher. I know, I’ve been there – you just want everything to be perfect. But have some idea of what you’re working with before you walk in that door. Of course, every girl wants (and deserves) the most spectacular wedding so don’t dull down what you really want. Bring your ideas and notes to the table and see what they can offer you. Be smart about it and get quotes. You never know.

A great tip our Event Coordinator gave us when I had all these great and wonderful ideas, was to write out my DREAM LIST, get a quote and then cull from there. This made it so much easier to work out the needs, the wants and wish list items. And really, looking back, I’m so glad we didn’t fork out $2,000 for a white dance floor. Nobody even remembers where they dancing at that point!

9.     Look at the bigger picture

Don’t get caught up in the perfection of it all! This is coming from Mrs. Perfectionist herself and I know that’s so easy to say but seriously, constantly remind yourself what’s truly important. No matter how much planning and research you have done, weddings are never completely perfect. But do you know what, WHO CARES, the day is about you and your future Husband and the commitment you are making to one another. If something unexpected pops up, just shake it off and go with it!

10.  Savour every moment

Rain, hail or shine – this is your day and it will only happen once! Be present in each moment and enjoy every single second of it. This was the top tip of advice everyone gave me prior to the wedding and so we both really made an effort to soak it all up. I can actually recall every single second of the day. It really was the happiest day of my life.

Oh Happy Day! {25 October 2014}

Hello! Happy New Year. Wow, is it 2015 already?! Where has the time gone. I've been saying for ages I really want to start up my blog again but after a year planning a wedding, time has literally flew by.

That's right - we got married! After seven blissful years together, Colin finally popped the question and fast forward to October 2014, we tied the knot at Joondalup Country Club, Perth. Western Australia. It was the most amazing day ever! We could not be happier.

Photography: Keegan Wong

The whole year planning the wedding was the most happiest, exciting, exhilarating - yet stressful time of my entire life. If you've ever been involved in planning a wedding, you will know exactly what I'm talking about! The pressure and desire to have everything just spot on really got to me at times and God Bless the saint that my Hubby is, the poor thing was faced with a few scary meltdowns - ha-ha. But at the end of the day, it all went perfectly. And it was all thanks to our wonderful suppliers. They really brought their A game on the day. I will be sharing my top tips soon. So keep your eyes peeled.

What else is new?

  • Well we rescued a new Pomeranian named Teddy. He is the happiest Pom you'll ever meet and trust us, he's really living the good life now!
  • We moved into our brand new house and slowly finishing it off. Watch out for more home decor posts.
  • I started a new marketing job and have been there for over a year now - it's fab.
  • I went from brunette - to - blonde! Totally hooked and loving the change. Do blondes really have more fun? Hmm ... maybe!
  • I made a few too many purchases ... what's new! Lots to share from our recent honeymoon in the US.

Stay tuned - My supplier list and top tips to have the best wedding day will be posted very soon.

Have you planned a wedding before? How did you cope? I'd love to hear your story in the comments below.
